Sciton Laser Treatments

Lasers make it possible to perform high-precision and often painless procedures to remove unwanted hair and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scars, stretch marks and vascular lesions.Below is an overview of the laser procedures we offer to give you healthier, younger-looking skin.

BroadBand Light (BBL)™ (Phototherapy - sun damage, acne scars, pigmented lesions)

BroadBand Light (BBL) is an FDA-approved laser treatment with numerous applications, including acne, pigmented lesions, vascular lesions and laser hair removal. This advanced system involves dual-lamp technology that delivers pulses of laser energy to the targeted area of skin, while keeping the skin cool and preventing damage to nearby tissue.

The number of BBL treatments needed depends on the patient’s skin type, depth of lesion and desired goals. For most patients, three to five treatment sessions spaced three to four weeks apart is sufficient in treating the targeted lesion. The results of this procedure will gradually develop over the course of three months.

ClearScan™ (Laser Hair Removal)

Many men and women have unwanted body hair that they are tired of removing through temporary, ineffective means such as shaving, waxing or bleaching. Laser hair removal performed with the ClearScan™ laser by Sciton® permanently removes hair from targeted areas of the skin for smooth results through a safe, minimally invasive procedure.

While this treatment can effectively remove hair on patients with all skin types, it is most effective on patients with light skin and dark hair. It can be used on nearly any area of the body with unwanted hair growth, including the legs, underarms, chest, back, face and more.

How does this treatment work?

During laser hair removal, the targeted area of skin is heated with laser energy to destroy hair follicles in the active growth state. An advanced cooling system ensures that the surface of the skin stays safe and is not damaged during treatment.

There may be some slight discomfort during this procedure, similar to the sensation of a rubber band being snapped against the skin. Topical numbing cream is available to minimize discomfort, but most patients are able to undergo this procedure without any anesthesia.

To achieve hair-free skin, most patients will need a series of three to five treatments spaced three to eight weeks apart. This will ensure that all follicles will be treated while in the active growth phase for effective removal. Your doctor will develop a personalized treatment plan for you based on your individual case.

What is recovery like?

After laser hair removal, patients will likely experience redness and swelling in the treated area, which should subside on its own after a few hours. If side effects persist, or if pigmentation occurs, you should see your doctor right away.

It is essential that patients avoid direct sun exposure after treatment, as this may alter the results of the procedure and produce unwanted side effects. Your doctor will provide you with additional instructions as to how to care for your skin while it heals.

MicroLaserPeel™ (Skin Resurfacing - Skin Firming)

The MicroLaserPeel by Sciton® removes the outermost skin layers to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, brown spots and uneven pigmentation. MicroLaser peels offer a deeper peel (20-50 microns) than microdermabrasion (10-15 microns) and light chemical peels but a gentler peel than full laser resurfacing.

You will notice an immediate improvement in skin texture and tightness after a MicroLaserPeel treatment. The results of each treatment last approximately 6-12 months. You may benefit from a series of treatments rather than just one. Your doctor will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan.

Your doctor will give you a special ointment to protect the newly exposed skin from the air for a few days after the treatment. After the MicroLaserPeel session, your skin will feel tight and look red, as if you a sunburn. On the second day, you will likely have some itching and minor sloughing of the skin. Healing should be complete within three or four days, at which time you may resume normal activities and cover the reddened skin with cosmetics if you wish.

Pigmented Lesions

Pigmented lesions are dark growths of skin such as moles or skin tags. Their color is due to the lesions' high melanin content. The most common pigment in the body, melanin readily absorbs laser light. Laser treatment destroys only the pigmented area without damaging the surrounding tissue.

ProFractional™ Laser (Wrinkle Reduction)

Manufactured by Sciton, the ProFractional laser effectively resurfaces the skin and improves the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars and other imperfections through a safe, painless procedure with minimal downtime. Anyone seeking smoother, younger-looking skin on their face, neck, chest or hands may be a candidate for the ProFractional treatment, which is performed in your doctor’s office in less than an hour.

Most patients achieve their desired results after one to five treatment sessions spaced three to six weeks apart. Your treatment plan will be discussed with your doctor prior to the procedure and will vary depending on your individual goals and current skin condition.
